Artificial Intelligence, Digital Accounting Governance, and Organizational Competitiveness: A Comparative Study of Microsoft and SAP in Enterprise Business Transformation

Abstract

Artificial intelligence and enterprise digitalization have fundamentally transformed accounting systems, organizational governance, managerial decision-making, and competitive strategy within the global business environment. This study examines how AI-driven enterprise systems influence accounting transparency, digital governance capability, organizational resilience, and strategic competitiveness through a comparative institutional analysis of Microsoft and SAP between 2019 and 2025. The article argues that enterprise digital transformation depends not solely on technological sophistication but on the integration of AI governance, accounting accountability, managerial adaptability, and institutional legitimacy. Using comparative institutional analysis, strategic management evaluation, and digital accounting governance assessment, the study analyzes corporate reports, ESG disclosures, enterprise digitalization data, OECD digital economy reports, World Bank governance indicators, and interdisciplinary academic literature. The findings indicate that Microsoft demonstrates stronger platform ecosystem integration, cloud-based AI scalability, and organizational innovation capability, while SAP exhibits greater enterprise governance specialization, accounting integration depth, and institutionalized operational coordination. The comparative evidence further reveals that AI-enabled accounting systems strengthen organizational efficiency, predictive governance capability, and strategic adaptation when supported by transparent governance mechanisms and managerial alignment. However, weak governance coordination and fragmented organizational integration may reduce the sustainability of enterprise digital transformation initiatives. This article contributes to economics, accounting, management, and digital business scholarship by developing an interdisciplinary framework linking AI governance, digital accounting systems, organizational capability, strategic adaptation, and competitive resilience within enterprise transformation ecosystems.
